It has been a year since the Red Sea "shipping" situation began.
On Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023, a tanker sailing under the Norwegian flag was hit by an anti-ship missile fired by Yemeni Houthi rebels off the coast of the Red Sea. The ship, named Strinda, had departed from Malaysia days earlier and was heading towards the Suez Canal.
In the world of transportation, proper packaging and sizing of cargo are receiving increasing attention. Appropriate packaging and size determination are important not only for the safety of the shipment but also result in cost-effectiveness, faster shipping, and more environmentally friendly solutions. Improperly packaged goods are more vulnerable to the forces encountered during the shipping process. This is especially important when dealing with fragile or valuable items. Carefully packaged and properly sized cargo reduces the chance of damage, ensuring that products arrive at their destination intact.
New requirements have been introduced for cargo shipments on passenger aircraft that transport goods to Australia, Canada, and the United States, or pass through these countries, and originate from countries designated by the governments of the aforementioned countries. These requirements stipulate that cargo can only be accepted for air transport from shippers with whom the freight forwarder or carrier has an Established Business Relationship (EBR).
